NO! RESEARCH IS NOT FROM “FUNDING-TO-PUBLICATION”; IT’S FROM “IDEAS-TO-IMPACT”
In the Global Researcher Study
They stated this:
Funding-to-Publication
This is wrong
Its rather:
Ideas-to-Impact
It’s unacceptable that funding and publications are held up as significant factors in research science. The system is utterly broken, and the incentive is upside down. And this is morally repugnant.
Ideas and real-world impacts should be the most important merits in research. Researchers should be required to pass a licensure and then be provided with every resource needed.
Otherwise, no one should be employed into a research position and be told to engage in soulless fights for grants which selects lame-easily understandable ideas by lazy reviewers and closed circle of mafia gangs.
The other problem is the mantra: publish-of-perish. This is one of the most senseless traumas research scientists are exposed to their entire career time.
Imagine architectural firms sat architects in their individual offices and forced them to come up with designs and published them as fast as they could.
This is unbelievable.
Instead, intelligent architects work in teams and win big contracts before unleashing their genius and life force.
What is this nonsense of the incessant publishing filed with errors, flawed, irreproducible datasets?
A more intelligent system should be formidable teams resourced and commissioned to conduct and document cutting-edge research.
The cost of human effort is high, the cost of equipment and materials are also very high. So, research should be conducted when commissioned and licensed to take place. Much like how large research organizations do research, like CERN, LIGO, NASA, etc.
These institutions issue grand challenges, teams are built around them and then the work starts. No one engineer or scientist has to languish in their horribly under-resourced laboratory struggling to land a man on the moon. By all means NO!
The days of hobbyist researchers and scientists are over. The era where philosophy, theology, poetry and theater arts mixed up for performative evening of impressive human intelligence in the age of darkness are over.
In the age of machine intelligence, pointless individual research should give way to grand challenge type research where whole institutions and groups of institutions operate together to produce groundbreaking research, which has to be reproduced many times over, translated and cross-checked across different domains to ensure the dataset are rock solid. Then the same institution{s} or another set are made to conduct structured follow up experiments/projects in another two decades or so.
It’s time to end the soulless funding applications, fraudulent grant management in institutions and the pointless publications of junk data which are fraught with errors due to the unsustainable systems within which the scientists operate.
